With Middle School Thespian districts coming up Saturday, seventh- and eighth-graders have been practicing almost every day after school.
Seventh-grader Deklyn G. will perform alongside his best friend and classmate Grant N.
“I’ve been doing theater since I was five years old. I started at the Henegar Center just doing little camps and stuff like that,” Deklyn said. “I met [West Shore theater director Maureen] Fallon and everything. I’m doing a duet with Grant called, ’All for the Best’ from ‘Godspell.’ I’m also doing improv with him, and I’m doing a solo called, ‘Giants in the Sky’ from ‘Into the Woods.’”
To prepare for Saturday’s event, both Deklyn and Grant have been blocking, choreographing and getting help from high-schools students, including sophomore Sabrina Torres.
“I think they work very well together and both are great singers. The duet will turn out amazing,” Torres said. “I am confident that they will do well since I know them both and they are determined to their acts and have the drive to make it great. They will be prepared by the end of this week.”
While Grant and Deklyn have been practicing for two weeks, Torres has one main thing that she has been working on with the boys.
“They need to work on the characters in the duet and stepping out of their comfort zone and simply going for it,” she said.
