Math students shine in district tournament

The algebra, pre-calculus and calculus/statistics teams placed first or second in either the written or bowl competition at the district math tournament in Viera on Saturday.

“I am really excited,” math teacher Ann Nery said. “The achievements really show the strength of our students.”
The algebra team consisted of eighth-graders Connor Courtney, Joey Crown, Srimayi Tenali and Atharva Chopde.

Freshmen Joseph Katz, Ian Chan, Lexie Krehbiel and Krunal Patel made up the pre-calculus team, and seniors Karl Krehbiel, Colin Chan, Anthony Vigil and sophomore Varun Bansal made up the calculus team. Every except for pre-algebra placed first, second or third in the competition.

“I am pleased to see students volunteer to compete in the competition not just for a grade, but for privilege,” math teacher Annamae Milligan said.
