First round of debate closes, second round kickoff

Round one for high school debate teams in Brevard County ended Tuesday night, Feb. 15. Sophomore Aalekhya Tenali finished in 1st place with a 6-0 finish and the highest speaker points of 295. She will advance to the semi-finals in April debating two tied-for-second place debaters: David Elliott from Edgewood Jr/Sr High School and Tony Lanza from Melbourne High School. Sophomore Tryphina Mikhail finished the round with a score of 4-2 and a speaker point total of (#). Junior Jennifer Garrido’s final score was 3-3 with a speaker point total of 271. Sophomore Brittany Cho did not compete Tuesday night due to illness but ended the round with a final score of 2-4.
Round two began Tuesday, Feb. 22 with four new debaters including seniors Karl Krehbiel, David Troner, Jacob Redito and sophomore Nithya Sheshadri. Krehbiel and Troner stand undefeated, as they each won both affirmative and negative debates. The following dates of the second round are March 1 and March 8 and will continue to be held at Viera High School.
