Dawson named boys’ basketball MVP

Senior Will Dawson received the Most Valuable Player award Saturday night at the boys’ basketball team’s end-of-season banquet held at Memaw’s Bar-B-Q in Indian Harbour Beach. Other awards, including first-year varsity letters, were given to sophomore Scott Adams, junior Dillon Thompson and seniors Jimmy Little and Colten Cormier.

“Will Dawson had a enormous post presence inside,” Coach Tony Riopelle said. “As a team, we played much better with him on the floor. Will showed great leadership, and he also led the team in scoring and rebounding this season.”

In addition, Adams set the individual free-throw record with 79.50 percent and sophomore Justin Laneuville set a record for 3-point shots with 50 percent accuracy.

“It is always great to see young players get better every day,” Coach Carl Putman said. “If our younger players work hard, we will be a great team next year and in the years to come. Young players need to step up and be the leaders of the team now that we are losing five seniors.”
