Dance team travels to Nationals this weekend

The Purrfections dance team will travel to Disney to compete at Nationals this weekend. They will dance on Saturday morning and evening. The team will debut its first hip-hop routine which will be one out of three dances total.

“It’s a lot of extra work and the girls have been putting in time at additional practices to get the third routine ready,” Coach April Shaw said. “I want all of them to put their best performance on the competition floor.”

The co-captains have hopes and goals for the weekend.

“I would love to place in the top three in at least one of the dances, however every year brings unique challenges,” co-captain Kathryn Carrick (12) said. “We have been working very hard to make sure we are ready for this, and I can’t believe it’ll be my last Nationals with the team.”

Teammate Abi Johnson (11) said she expects a strong performance.

“I don’t want to jinx anything, but I know we will all put in everything we have to do our best,” she said.

Last year the Purrfections placed first in pom, making them national champions.

“If we happen to bring home some hardware again, then that will be the icing on the cake,” Shaw said.
