The dance team is helping needy families of Brevard County by buying Christmas presents for their children.
Coach April Shaw came up with the idea to benefit the less fortunate in the community.
“I got the idea from a fellow teacher who is a parent of a Space Coast Crew member,” Shaw said. “They have done the same thing before, and it sounded like a good idea.”
The team purchased the gifts at the Wickham Road Wal-Mart last Sunday.
“We split up into three groups, and each group had a certain budget.” sophomore Michelle Smith said. “We had a lot of fun picking out the presents for the little boys and girls. I thought it was a good thing to do, to embrace the holiday spirit.”
Shaw said dance team members will also benefit from the experience.
“Teens typically think about themselves a lot,” Shaw said. “Doing this it makes them realize the hardships and realities around them.”
