Two divers medal at state championship meet

Sophomore Lillian Altman place seventh and eighth-grader Eliza H. placed eighth in the A state championship dive meet held last month at Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart, Fla.

“Honestly after the meet, I was up in the bleachers talking to friends and family about it and didn’t go down when they started calling out places,” Altman said. “I wasn’t expecting to get on the podium, so I just stood there talking until my coach and a few others came and told me to come down because I had to go get my medal.”

Eliza also expressed amazement with her results.

“I knew that I would place higher than I was seeded, but not this much higher,” she said. “I was very surprised and excited when I figured out I got eighth place.”

The two had prepared for their meet at practices leading up to the competition.

“I was able to improve my score at states by going to practice as much as I could, so I could fix all of the details that I needed to work on,” Altman said. “At my coach’s warehouse I was able to do trampoline work.”

Altman said she already is working to improve next season.

“I’ll do more trampoline work conditioning and games since the season is over,” she said.
