Junior Ian Chan was recognized at the 2013 Sunshine State Scholar Awards in Orlando last Thursday and Friday. Chan was selected to represent Brevard Public Schools in November. Fifty to 60 students from throughout the state also were recognized.
” Ian’s parents and I had the great privilege of watching him receive his award on Friday, ” Annie Nery said.
For a third consecutive year, the state has recognized deserving 11th-graders and exposed them to the various options for colleges, universities and careers in Florida.
The state wants to encourage these students to stay in Florida as part of its effort to bolster its work force.
Last year, West Shore’s Rashad Abdulla won this award.
