Cats crush Covenant Christian 62-30

The varsity boys basketball team pulled their record back above .500 after their landslide victory against Covenant Christian 62-30 Tuesday.

The Cats continued their five-game road trip, facing their third opponent, Covenant Christian.  After jumping out to a 16-4 first-quarter lead, West Shore held their opponents to under 5 points per quarter except for the third.

The team was lead by sophomore center Jake Diamond who scored 14 points and had a team-high seven rebounds. He also tied the team high with three steals.  Senior forward Justin Laneuville and senior guard Anthony Wattwood also had notable performances, scoring 11 and 8 points respectively.  Coach Tony Riopelle credited a balanced game all the way through.

“We played well,” he said. “We were aggressive on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.”

The Cats where missing senior point guard Scott Adams who remains sidelined with an injury. In his absence, junior varsity sophomore guard Stryker Sinclair was moved up to varsity and had one assist, two rebounds and a steal.

The Cats, who improved to 11-10 overall and 2-0 against Covenant Christian, next face Cocoa High School in their fourth consecutive away game.  West Shore holds a 0-1 record against Cocoa, losing to the Tigers 60-43 on Dec. 13.
