Boys’ soccer opens season with 3-0 victory

Junior Gavin Robidoux scored two goals and junior Jackson Stradtmann added another as the boys’ varsity soccer team starts off its season with 3-0 victory at Melbourne Central Catholic on Nov. 4.

“Our team did well since we won 3-0 but it was still the first game the season and we have many things to work on,” said sophomore Cannon Hester, who plays left center defense. “I think we have a good chance to have a great season. We have a young team with a lot of talent and if we can all play our roles we will definitely be successful this season.”

Sophomore Mateo Villanueva has high hopes for the season.

“The MCC game was a good confidence booster moving forward into the harder games this season. I think everyone played good and we played good defensively to keep a shut out. I’m super-excited for the season and games to come,” Villanueva said. “Although COVID-19 has definitely has had an impact on our season because we have to wear masks when off the field and check our temperatures before every practice. Corona also is what is keeping me and my brother from being able to practice and play with our team for the next two weeks. Thankfully, the whole soccer team doesn’t have to quarantine, which would have really hurt our season. The rest of the team still gets to practice and play games.”
