Boys JV basketball plays opening game Monday at Astronaut

The JV boys’ basketball team begins its season on Monday against Astronaut. With six new players the team is looking to get off to a better start than last season, which started with a loss, as well as beating a team they failed to defeat last year.

“For me I think our first game against Astronaut will be a test of how well we can just do the little things,” sophomore Carl Koko said. “As a team, we need to communicate, trust each other and guide each other.

The game will be away and the team is determined to not waste the trip.

“We don’t want to just take the bus ride there to lose, we want to go there and earn their respect because no one in the county respects West Shore,” Koko said. “We are basically an afterthought, so we just need to go out there and give it our all.”

Last season the JV team lost at Astronaut by eight points and are hoping to get payback.

“I’m really anticipating a good game on our part Monday,”sophomore Matthew Marcinkowski said. “I think we have a better chance than in past years to win and I think the team is really coming together to make this a fun and enjoyable season.”

The game tips off at 5:30 p.m. in the Astronaut gym.
