Fans react as the state championship soccer game on Thursday.

Many students took the opportunity to either take the fan bus to the state championship soccer game, drive there themselves or watch the game on television. And all were ecstatic to have witnessed the school’s victory over No. 1-ranked Tampa Berkeley Prep on Thursday.

“It was a great game,” sophomore Alex Nixon said. “I’m not a big soccer fan, but when any sport from the school makes it to states you have to support them and watch. It was really exciting and I’m beyond happy for them especially with so many of the players being sophomores as well.”

Sophomore Erin O’Brien had a special attachment to the victory because her older brother Dylan starts on the team.

“I was super excited when Dylan scored the winning goal at the state semifinal game (against Jacksonville Bishop Kenney), and I knew that I had to go see him and the rest of the team in the state finals,” O’Brien said. “It was really cool to see my classmates win a state title. I was really happy for them.”

The boys soccer championship has been featured on WCTZ News and in the February edition of “The Roar” news magazine.
