Montverde shuts out boys soccer teams

The boys varsity soccer team played Monte Verde on Nov. 1. The game ended 2-0. Montverde is the number one team in the nation and has not lost a competitive season match in 5 years. Their academy recruits players from all over the world.

Cording to senior Matthew Moscrip, playing against Montverde is a whole new game. The boys have been working on tactics custom just for the game against the academy.

“For the entire week we worked on a new formation that helps us to cut lanes and forces them to play long balls” says senior Matthew Moscrip. “Their team was so strong so we didn’t look to go forward with the ball very much. Our game plan was to pack it in the back and score on a fast break.

The boys play against Montverde at least once a season and this year the team felt they did better than usual.

“We had more chances than usual,” junior Abe Murphy said. “Sam Leighton hit the post and I had some fast brakes of my own. Even though we didn’t win it is just a good experience to play against kids that are that good.”

The boys open their season on Nov 10 at home against Cocoa.
