Friday’s International Fiesta cancelled

The International Fiesta that was scheduled for tonight has been cancelled due to the lack of volunteered work and donations, according to Spanish Honor Society sponsor Adia Martinez.

“We didn’t have enough food donations, so we had to cancel it,” she said.

All the food served at the International Fiesta is brought and provided by the parents and the students who sign up to work at the event.

“As I understand it, there was a confusion about the food donations,” student activities coordinator Bonnie Bettis said. “I just think there was a communications breakdown between Spanish Honor and the parents with the amount of food needed.”

World languages student appear particularly concerned because their teachers previously used the International Fiesta as an opportunity for them to earn extra credit. When students saw their language teachers at the fiesta, they would receive a coin which they could redeem for bonus points.

“For my class, since were doing a passport activity, I’ll create another activity to take the place of the fiesta,” Martinez said.

International Fiesta could be rescheduled, but it appears unlikely.

“We wanted to reschedule it for May, but there is so much going on with AP exams, but we are still trying,” Martinez said. “Nothing is scheduled right now, but we are looking to move it to another day, possibly May 6, the day after Cinco de Mayo. It’s not done until the fat lady sings, and I’m not signing.”
