Graduation speaking, singing auditions will be held March 21, 24

Seniors interested in speaking or singing at graduation must try out at 3:40 p.m in Room 16-100 either on March 21 or March 24. The positions available include leading the Pledge of Allegiance, singing national anthem, introducing guests, speakers and performers, singing of the class song and the alma mater. Positions for and at least three general speakers also will be available. Singing auditions will be held for the national anthem, the alma mater and the class song which is the “Glee” version of Bill Withers’ 1970s classic “Lean on Me.”

“There is so much I want to say, but I don’t want to cry,” said Senior Class President Megan Poulsen, who is required to give a speech. “I get super-nervous already. I don’t want to think about it, but I know I have to.”

Senior Heather Stewart has expressed interested in speaking.

“I’ll probably go for something humorous,” she said. “I want to talk about coming here and how different our school is.”

The graduation committee, which is made up of teachers, students, parents and administrators, will decide from the auditions which students will be selected to speak.
