Middle-school troupe to perform ‘Mulan Jr.’

Following the story of a young girl in ancient China who proves that nothing is set in stone, “Mulan Jr.”, the middle-school musical, will be March 20 in the auditorium. A performance for middle school will be during seventh period and home room, with another performance 7 p.m. for general admission. Tickets can be purchased for the evening show at showtix4u.com for $6.

The cast includes eighth-graders Jayden D, Breanna G. and Evan C. as  Shang,  Mulan and Mushu, respectively. Junior Gabrielle McKessey had the opportunity to assistant direct the show.

“I feel like the show is going to be great,”  McKessey said. “The kids have done such an amazing job with the little time they’ve had and I’m extremely proud of them. They’re all very talented and have been able to pick up the songs and dance moves quickly.”

Eighth-grader Dylan O, who plays Ling, one of Mulan’s soldier friends, expressed positive sentiments regarding the show.

“My favorite part is when the soldiers have to dress up like girls to save the emperor,” Dylan said. “I feel like we have had enough practices for the performance to go well. I think everyone will get their lines and have fun.”

McKessey said she’sa thankful for the opportunity to help out with the show in such an important way.

“The best part of the experience is seeing how much the kids have accomplished and how their talent has only gotten better since the first rehearsal,” she said. “It’s gratifying to see something you helped with really live up to its potential and these kids definitely have.”
