Boys’ basketball gears up for offseason push

While the varsity boys’ basketball season has ended, multiple offseason events for the program continue. Open gym and workouts will begin on March 16 and will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“We are starting the offseason workouts early this year for one simple reason: We have to be stronger to beat the big schools,” Coach Tony Riopelle said.

The team also will compete in summer leagues at Stetson University and Florida Institute of Technology summer team camps.

“Summer league is always fun. It is a good way to know were we stand as a team and learn what we need to improve on before the actual season starts,” Assistant Coach Bob Salazar said.

With a majority of the team being returning varsity players, Riopelle says he sees much potential.

“We are capable of doing great things next year,” he said. “We are going to finish next season with a winning record. We will win the Bronson holiday tournament, and we will get out of district play next season if we continue to work hard.”
