Space Coast United soccer team gears up for State Cup

The U-16 Space Coast United girls’ soccer team will take on the U-17 Space Coast United girls on Sunday at 3 p.m. The game is is mainly for preparation for State Cup’s first round for both teams.

“I think we’ll beat the U-17 girls considering the fact that we’ve beaten the U-18 girls recently,” Melbourne High School freshman Katie Reed said.

The U-16 girls have held many scrimmages in preparation for State Cup, and have won all of them. A couple of teams the U-16 girls have played were the U-18 Space Coast United girls, U-17 Mako girls, U-17 Kendall Soccer club and another U-17 Miami team.

“Playing teams that are older than us helps us play better against our own age-group teams because we can play at a higher tempo then they do,” West Shore sophomore Erin Berube said.

The U-16 girls will be competing in the first round of State Cup in Brandon on March 26-27.
