Cross country runs for doughnuts

The cross-country team played host to “The Doughnut Run” fundraiser on Oct. 8 on the soccer field.

“We wanted this to be a good fun successful fundraiser for everybody,” said boys’ Coach Jason Whitworth, who was inspired by the Melbourne High School “run-a-thon.”  He said he wanted to make the event enjoyable for runners to eat doughnuts and have a good time.

“But you don’t have to have a doughnut,” Whitworth said at the event.

Each athlete had a pledge sheet that he or she filled out for either a per-lap pledge or a flat rate. The money from the fundraiser will help with registration entry fees for races and will expand traveling for the team bringing them to several different places they haven’t gone before.

“If it provides enough money for us, then hopefully will pay for hotels and hopefully much more,” Whitworth said.
