Boys’ soccer overcomes Bayside 2-1

Junior Brandon Benitez scored  from a side volley off a cross in the game’s last minute as the boys’ soccer team powered through in a 2-1 victory against Bayside on Monday night. Senior Nick Burgess scored from a free kick earlier in the game.

“The keeper was pretty decent, but we still found a way to score,” Benitez said. “We had 90 percent possession, but overall the whole game was like a FIFA match. There were bad calls and a lot of missed opportunities.”

The star player Abe Murphy remained on the bench throughout the game due to an injury.

“I was watching from the sideline,” the junior said. “Throughout the match we had a lot of possession and we should’ve shot more and scored more. Overall we were quite lucky to win. We need to improve our game.”

Murphy said he’s eager to get back on the pitch when the team takes on Heritage on Friday at 7 p.m.
